n the second article of this series, we are expanding the discussion around Energy Platform and the characteristics of an Energy Platform Operator.

Utilities are undergoing the biggest change in their 130-year history. The new emerging Utility Model will deliver an Energy Platform that can accommodate and thrive alongside distributed clean power generation, energy storage, and advanced energy management.

The Energy Platform builds on current Electricity Distribution Business investments through adoption of more advanced technology into the grid – balancing energy supply (both traditional and DERs) and demand – along with an evolution of distribution system designs to enable safe, reliable, and seamless integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and independent microgrids to improve overall efficiency of the electric system. The primary goal is achieving sustainable equitable accessible energy outcomes.
