The 2030 Utility Roadmap

n the third article of this series, our approach to develop a roadmap to transition to a Distribution System Operator is laid out leveraging our U30 (Utility 2030) reference architecture.

Developing a roadmap requires an understanding of the starting point and a vision for the future operating model. Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) defined five electric distribution network stereotypes that electric utilities are facing as transformation alternatives by 2030.

The objective of the U30 reference architecture is to help utilities understand the choices they now face, select their most suitable operating model, and develop a transition roadmap leveraging the templates that are part of the U30 reference architecture toolkit. The future is arriving very quickly.
